  • Start Blazing Star seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed them outdoors in the fall. To improve germination indoors, cold stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist paper towel inside a plastic bag or container and refrigerating for 2-3 weeks. (Cold stratification is not necessary for fall-planted seeds.)

Press seeds into the soil and cover lightly, as light aids germination. Keep the soil consistently moist, as germination typically occurs in about 45 days but may take longer in cooler temperatures. Note that germination can be erratic.

After the last frost, transplant seedlings to a full sun location, spacing plants 24 inches (60 cm) apart.
