  • Start broccoli seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed them outdoors around 2 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm) deep and cover lightly with soil, keeping it moist until germination, which typically occurs within 7-10 days.

    When seedlings are ready, transplant them into a sunny location about 2 weeks before the last frost date. Space plants 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) apart to allow ample room for growth. For added protection, use row covers to reduce damage from flea beetles and cabbage moth caterpillars.
