  • Start delphinium seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-sow them in the fall. For improved germination, perform cold stratification by placing seeds in a moist paper towel, sealing them in a plastic bag or container, and refrigerating for 1-2 weeks before sowing.

Press seeds into the soil and cover lightly. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 14-30 days but may take longer in cooler conditions. Once the risk of frost has passed, transplant seedlings to a sunny outdoor location, spacing plants 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.
