  • Start Echinacea seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed them outdoors in the fall. To improve germination for indoor planting, cold stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist paper towel inside a plastic bag or container, then refrigerate for 1-2 weeks.

Sow seeds about 1/8 inch (3 mm) deep and cover lightly with soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 10-20 days, though it may take longer in cooler temperatures.

After the last frost, transplant seedlings to a sunny location, spacing plants 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) apart.

  • Echinacea spp.

Also knowns as coneflower, purple coneflower
