  • For best results, direct-seed Hollyhocks in early spring or late fall. Alternatively, start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date.

    Soak seeds overnight before sowing to improve germination. Press seeds lightly into the soil and cover, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs in 14-21 days.

    After the last frost, transplant seedlings to a sunny location, spacing plants 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) apart. Hollyhocks may benefit from support as they grow tall, though it’s not required.
