  • Start milkweed seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-sow them outdoors in the fall. For successful germination, cold stratification is required: place seeds in a moist paper towel inside a plastic bag or container, and refrigerate for 3-4 weeks before planting.

    Press seeds lightly into the soil and cover them, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 10-15 days. Once the risk of frost has passed, transplant seedlings to a sunny location, spacing plants about 18 inches (45 cm) apart.
