Squash seeds can be started indoors no more than 3-4 weeks earlier than your last frost date. Squash plants do not like to become root bound and will suffer from transplanting stress if plants are too large.
Bury seeds 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) deep and cover with soil. Keep moist until germination in ~5-10 days. May take longer with cooler soil temperatures.
Space plants 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) apart for bush varieties and or 4-5 feet (120-150 cm) apart for vining varieties.
