Soapwort makes excellent ground cover.  A carpet of tiny purple flowers bloom in early summer.  Prefers full sun, but can tolerate part shade conditions as well.  Flowers are very attractive to bees.  Soapwort roots were used to make soaps and detergents, as the name suggests.  Perennial, hardy to zone 3.
