  • For earlier blooms, start sweet pea seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-seed them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Soak seeds for 24 hours before planting to enhance germination. Press seeds lightly into the soil and cover, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs in 10-21 days. Germination may be uneven, especially in cooler temperatures, with some seeds sprouting at different times.

After your last frost date, transplant seedlings to a sunny location with support for climbing, spacing plants 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) apart for vigorous growth and abundant blooms.

  • Lathyrus odoratus
